Memorial for murdered Liberty woman stolen from Vienna golf course
The owner of a Trumbull County golf course says he can't believe someone stole a memorial dedicated to the memory of a former member who was murdered by her neighbor last year.
John Tester tells 21 News he came to his Hidden Oaks Golf Course in Vienna early Friday and discovered that someone had pulled a black stone memorial out of the ground, and spirited it away, leaving nothing behind but a square hole in the earth.
The memorial marker had been placed in the memory of Jane LaRue Brown, who played in a league at the course until she was found murdered at her Liberty Township home in 2017 at the age of 84.
Tester posted a picture of the marker on his Facebook page with the message, "Can you believe someone stole this marker."
The theft has been reported to the police. Tester says if someone returns the marker, worth about $300, he won't press charges.
Sean Clemens is serving a sentence life plus 26 years for breaking into Brown's home and murdering her.
Tester said after 28 years he's retiring from running the course which will go up for auction on October 12.
