WBCB, The Valley’s CW, will televise the Missouri Valley Football Conference game between Youngstown State and the University of Northern Iowa this Saturday, October 5th.  The game will begin at 5:00 p.m., live from Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The game is the MVFC opener for both teams and is a match-up of ranked rivals.  YSU is currently #17 in the latest FCS Coaches poll, while UNI is #13.

Last week the Penguins (4-0) stayed undefeated by blowing out Robert Morris, 45-10, at home.  The Panthers (2-2) were on the road and lost to #5 Weber State, 29-17.

The schools first played in 1978 with Northern Iowa holding a 22-9 advantage in the series.  But in recent years, YSU has won three of the last five meetings, including a convincing 31-10 victory last season at Stambaugh Stadium.

The Penguins come into the game as the MVFC's highest-scoring team at 44.5 points per game.  They are second in total offense, piling up 461.8 yards per contest.  The Panthers are third in total defense (294.5) and fifth in scoring defense (19.5).

Individually, last week was a notable week for both teams.  YSU had the conference's Offensive Player of the Week (Joe Alessi, RB) and Special Teams Player of the Week (Jake Coates, punt returner).  UNI won Defensive Player of the Week (Chris Kolarevic, LB) and Newcomer of the Week (Will McElvain, QB) honors.
