Township trustees in Boardman met Monday to discuss how providing more green space can help combat flooding in the future.

Since the township was hit hardback in late May and most of June, people living there have been looking for answers.

The ordinance that was discussed would increase greenspace requirements from 10 to 15 percent.

Big projects, including the Southern Park Mall, would fall under this ordinance.

"I just want everyone to know this is something we have been doing for a few years now and a lot of what we're doing in our planning and our development, and our zoning has been forward-thinking. We want to know, what is the Boardman of 2025 and 2030 gonna look like," Larry Moliterno, Boardman Township Trustee, said.

The ordinance was approved last month and will go into effect this week.

Another meeting is expected later on this month so trustees can go over their full, comprehensive plan.
