A Vienna priest, who was placed on leave almost one year ago for alleged sexual misconduct with a boy, filed a defamation lawsuit against the Youngstown Catholic Diocese.

Officials from the diocese told 21 News they received the lawsuit from Reverend Denis G. Bouchard, F.S.S.P., last Friday.

They said the lawsuit claims the misconduct allegations placed against Bouchard are untrue.

The victim was between the ages of 9 and 11 at the time of the alleged abuse.

Officials said the boy and his mother are both involved in the lawsuit.

Bouchard was the pastor of Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish in Vienna.

This is not the first time there has been an allegation of misconduct against Bouchard.

The Victim Assistance Coordinator for the Diocese said a previous allegation had been made against him. Still, the alleged victim, in that case, was not cooperative with investigators at the time, so the allegation was never deemed to be credible.

However, Bouchard was not on a list of priests deemed to have been credibly accused of sexual abuse released last year by the diocese.

Diocese officials said they cannot comment on the lawsuit because of pending litigations, but the investigation into the alleged sexual misconduct is ongoing.
