A gas well fire was reported around 2 p.m. Sunday on Vernon Road in West Salem Township, Mercer County, Pa.

An official tells 21 News the leak has been contained, and the fire is extinguished. 

At this time, it is believed a mechanical malfunction caused the leak. 

Ten fire departments were called out to aid in the fire.

The fire departments had set up a perimeter to ensure safety.

Vernon Rd between North Summit Road and North Good Hope Road, along with a portion of Hickory Road, were closed to traffic during the incident.

A viewer told 21 News they could see smoke coming across the intersection of North Summit Road and Vernon Road.
