All lanes of Interstate 80 westbound in Mercer County after an accident involving several semi-trucks on Tuesday. However, speed restrictions remain in effect.
That accident took place near Interstate 376, closing the highway from Exit 15 to Exit 4 until the lanes could be re-opened early Wednesday.
Due to weather conditions, PennDOT has reduced the speed along I-80 to 45 mph from the state line to Exit 19.
A 21 News crew on the scene reported seeing slow-moving traffic on the road.
Pennsylvania State Police tell us at least two people had to be cut from their vehicles, one possibly airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Troopers couldn't confirm the extent of the injured, but the images of shredded trailers and crushed sheet metal told of the sheer force of the impact.
They shut down the westbound lanes for hours, and it took about an hour to reach State Route 19, where officials set up a detour.
