The Light Church, which opens doors and welcomes people to the auditorium on Sundays at East High School, invited people to come in and shop at the Light Church Marketplace for gently used donated items.
Pastor Mark Jackson said, "We want to be a blessing to our community, so people brought clothes, shoes, coats, furniture, appliances. Then, we also went and got groceries. We have turkeys we are giving away. We just want to bless the people. We believe in showing Christ's love through actions."
Although signs were stating a dollar or two dollars and so on, all the items were free.
People were given mock money to spend.
Mothers and kids from Youngstown loved gathering items for the kids and expressed how thankful they are for the gifts.
Anthony Johnson from Trumbull County said that the event was a blessing and got a full bag of stuff as well as food.
Over 200 congregation members donated and volunteered time to help.
Kami Taylor, a member of the church, added, "It's been fun to hear them say they are going to Christmas shop, or they're getting things for their friends or family. It's just been fun."
Before leaving, guests were given bread and food.
About 40 more people say they'll be back on Sundays for the Church of Light.
