Akron Children's Hospital unveils new behavioral health center
Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley revealed it's new behavioral health center.
The newly renovated building will provide behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and teens in the area.
The new space will open Dec. 10.
The hospital says depression and anxiety are on the rise in children and young adults.
Suicide is the leading cause of death in children ages 10 to 14.
To help combat the rise, the hospital has developed nine therapy rooms and space for group sessions to aid in the care of mental health needs.
Doug Straight, the operating director of the program, said this is Akron Children's commitment to filling gaps in the community for patients and families with behavioral health needs.
You can learn more about this service by attending a public open house this Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon at Akron Children's Campus off Market Street in Boardman.
