Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Mercer County late Thursday.

Several fire departments were shortly before 8 p.m. called out when flames were reported at a home on the 1600 block of Georgetown Road in New Lebanon Borough.

The caller told dispatchers that flames were pouring from the side of the home and power lines were down.

Firefighters say the fire spread through the inside of the home until they could open up the metal roof.

Although most of the fire was under control in about a half-hour, crews from eight departments remained on the scene for several hours.

The owner escaped unharmed, but the home is a total loss.

Although a caller told a dispatcher that Christmas lights may be to blame for the fire, an official cause has yet to be determined.
