Greenville woman held in Ohio jail following chase, officer-involved shooting
A Greenville, Pennsylvania woman wanted on drug charges in Mercer County is in an Ohio jail while authorities decide if she'll be charged in connection with a deadly officer-involved shooting.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says 34-year-old Kristen Lee McCoy, 34, drove an SUV at speeds up to 100 miles per hour as a state trooper chased it along Route 7 in Monroe and Belmont Counties on Thursday.
According to the release, the SUV was reported stolen, and troopers attempted to make a stop when McCoy refused to stop.
The chase lasted for 20 minutes before troopers deployed spike strips along Route 7, deflating the SUV's tires.
After hitting the spike strips, the SUV crashed into the guardrail.
State Troopers say they took defensive positions and began telling the driver and male passenger to get out of the car, to which the suspects initially refused.
According to the release, the male got out of the car and held McCoy at gunpoint while walking towards troopers.
Troopers say they told the man to stop, but he continued to move towards them, leading to troopers shooting the male suspect.
The release states that the male was given first aid but died at the scene of the shooting.
McCoy was transferred to the hospital for a shoulder injury but has since been incarcerated at the Belmont County Jail.
Troopers recently released the name of the male suspect as 41-year-old Joshua Franklin Roberts of Meadville, Pennsylvania.
