Police say a 53-year-old woman was stabbed early Tuesday at a Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority high-rise for senior citizens.

Authorities say she was stabbed inside the 13-story Amedia Plaza, located across from Youngstown Police Headquarters on West Boardman Street at around 2:30 a.m.

The woman, who is a resident of Amedia Plaza, was in surgery seven hours after the stabbing.

Detectives could be seen searching the area around the building, looking for evidence following the incident.

Police say they have a suspect in mind but have not said if that suspect has been arrested.

Amedia Plaza is one of six housing units operated by the YMHA for senior citizens.

YMHA Director Jason Whitehead told 21 News that police are investigating, and there is no reason residents of Amedia Plaza should be concerned.
