Explosion, fire, burns woman at Boardman apartment
A woman was rushed to the hospital with severe burns following an explosion and fire at a Boardman apartment complex.
Firefighters from Boardman and Canfield were called after 8 a.m. Tuesday after an explosion was reported at the London Square apartments on Rockdale Avenue, just west of Glenwood Avenue.
Flames damaged two apartments. Three other units were damaged by smoke.
Fire officials say 53-year-old Eve Heim-Hagen was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital is expected to be flown to the burn unit in Akron. A friend of the victim said she received severe burns on her face, chest, legs, and hands. The woman's cat died in the fire
The Red Cross is helping two other families displaced by the fire.
Although investigators say the woman had an oxygen tank in her apartment, they are still looking for the cause of the explosion and fire.
