The Chaney High School boys basketball team will play in the regional semi-final to a small crowd on Thursday.
Based on the recommendation issued Tuesday by Gov. Mike DeWine limiting spectators at indoor sporting events because of coronavirus fears, all tickets purchased for Thursday’s Chaney boys basketball game vs. Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary are null and void, according to school officials.
Any tickets purchased at Chaney for the game at the Canton Memorial Civic Center may be brought back to Chaney for a full refund. Those tickets are voided and will not be accepted at the gate for Thursday’s regional semi-final game.
Each player will designate four family members or guardians, each of whom will be able to buy a $7 pass to attend the game. Those passes must be purchased at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
Chaney school personnel are not able to add people to the list of those who may buy game tickets, so other fans, community members, and supporters are asked not to call the school to make those requests.
According to a statement from the school, the decision to limit the fans able to attend the game was not a local one. This procedure is being followed at all regional tournament sites across the state.
