COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Ohio, with 520 additional cases reported on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's update moves the state's total number of cases to 27,474 when using the CDC's expanded probable case definition. The confirmed total of coronavirus cases is 25,836.
Total deaths in Ohio are also on the rise, with 1,610 reported as of Saturday. That's an increase of 29 deaths since Friday's briefing.
The number of hospitalizations continues to climb upward with 4,870, up 79 since Friday. The number of ICU admissions continues to inch higher, with 1,300 reported.
Fifty-four percent of COVID-19 cases are present in males, with 46 percent in females.
A model by The Ohio State University that provides projections for coronavirus case numbers predicted 272 new cases of the virus on May 16, significantly lower than the actual increase.
The 21-day trends posted by the Ohio Department of Health lists the case average at 566, with 43 being the death average.
As of Saturday's Department of Health update, Mahoning County had 1,199 coronavirus cases, an increase of 15 within 24 hours. There have been 271 hospitalizations and 146 deaths.
Trumbull County's case total is 447, with 137 hospitalizations and 38 deaths. That's an increase of seven cases after no new cases were reported on Friday.
Columbiana County reported 415 cases, an increase of 16 since Friday, with 125 hospitalizations and 43 deaths. One hundred thirty of the coronavirus cases come from the federal prison in Elkton, where 118 inmates and 12 staff members have cases.
