Work is expected to wrap up this week on a mural being painted on the outside of the Southern Park Mall.
As part of The Canvas Project, Youngstown firefighter Patrick McGlone, who attended the art Institute of Pittsburgh, is putting up a mural that reads “Yohio”.
The mural is going on the wall between Escape Boardman and Sawa Japanese Steak House.
The artwork was inspired by a product sold by mall tenant, the Youngstown Clothing Company. A T-shirt with “Yohio” written over the outline of Ohio is to showcase a sense of Youngstown Pride.
Blocks of color surround the “Yohio” mural.
While celebrating and supporting local artists, the Canvas Project, also provides an opportunity for the community to connect and grow.
"Local artists make our community vibrant," said Brian Gabbert, General Manager at Southern Park Mall. "Their use of subjects, color, texture, and composition awaken a sense of curiosity and connection to the world around us.”
