All inclusive Boardman trunk-or-treat event keeps families safe

With kids dressed as superheroes, princesses, monsters and much more, cars gathered at the Rulli Brothers in Boardman Sunday for an all inclusive, socially distanced trunk-or-treat event.

The event was also co-hosted by Elisa's Entourage and Miss Dana's Diamonds.

Dozens of vendors filled the parking lot to give out candy and other items for kids with allergies and disabilities while families stayed in their cars.

"This year brings a lot of the restrictions that families typically deal with, worrying about infection, worrying about illness. This event will bring a lot of awareness to families that might not have a child with special needs," said Danielle Procopio with Elisa's Entourage.

"They're having a lot of fun," said Leann Osborn of Austintown. "They think it's really neat to drive around and just have candy handed to them."

"We just really like helping out," said Alea Nicholudis with Extreme Air. "It's a great opportunity for kids with special needs, allergies, everything. It's just a great way for everyone to get involved."

Cars had the option of a blue ribbon bag for food allergies or a green ribbon bag for disabilities. That way each vendor knew what specific food item to give each car based on the individual child's needs.

"They ask you right away what ribbon you want and everybody's getting what they want and they're having a good time," said Christina Pascarella of Boardman.

All proceeds went to The Walnut Grove and Easter Seals. Parents say the event was a great way to keep their families safe through this year's Halloween.

"It evened the playing field to be able to take my kids out in a healthy and safe environment for trick-or-treating so we don't have to worry," said Dana Winters with Miss Dana's Diamonds.
