Lordstown to welcome more new businesses

Lordstown village council gave the green light for a Tennessee company to come to town, bringing at least 100 new jobs over five years with it.

It's been said that a rising tide lifts all boats.
As work on the GM/LG Chem battery plant kicks into overdrive, it's creating opportunity for more businesses to come to Lordstown.

"I'm excited just seeing the people, these are hard working, great Americans, it's fun to be part of that," said Glenn Morris, president/CEO of M&M Industries. "I think it'll make any operation that we make here...be that much greater."

Chattanooga, Tennessee-based M&M is jumping at that opportunity.
M&M makes containers for hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
Morris was on hand Monday night as village council, in a 5-1 vote, granted a 15 year, 75 percent tax abatement for the company to move into the former Magna Seating facility.

"They're looking hopefully for a spring groundbreaking, somewhere between Memorial Day and Fourth of July," said council president Ron Radtka. "We're thrilled to death."

Radtka and the rest of council also entered into an agreement for the city of Niles to provide water to the battery plant.
It's seen not only as building on a good partnership between the two communities, but another way for Lordstown to be the rising tide to lift more boats.

"That gives us the opportunity to supply more water for not just Ultium/LG project right now, but other projects we're hopeful in the future," Radtka said.

The village zoning and planning commission also gave the go-ahead for Perishable Shipping Solutions to take over an old building along Route 45, bringing the promise of about 90 jobs in the next 12 to 18 months.
