The Boardman Fire Department is dealing with an increase in COVID-19 cases within the department.

The department now has 12 confirmed coronavirus cases.

According to Boardman Township Administrator Jason Loree, 13 other firefighters are currently quarantined.

Due to the coronavirus cases, the Fire Department will not be responding to medical calls unless Lane EMTs call for assistance.

The fire department will continue to respond to fire calls and receive aid from nearby departments through their mutual aid agreement.

Loree told 21 News that intermittent closing of some fire stations might happen while the department works through the coronavirus outbreak.

The current plan is to have the department fully running again on November 23.
