Red Cross asking for blood donors following winter storms

The American Red Cross is asking for blood and platelet donations following record-breaking winter storms across the U.S.

The organization is asking for healthy people, especially people with type O blood, to give now to make sure that blood is available for emergencies.

Winter storms prevented hundreds of blood drives from happening over the last week, causing more than 15,000 blood and platelet donations not to be collected.

In Ohio alone, nearly 700 donations were not collected, with more than 20 blood drives being canceled.

The Red Cross aims to get back on track with donations this week as the weather returns to near seasonal averages.

Several blood drives are happening in the area in the next couple of weeks.
