Salem offering 200 one-dose vaccines Thursday

The Salem City Health District will be offering the one-time dose of the Johnson and Johnson COVID 19 walk-in vaccine, Thursday, March 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to the first 200 people at the health district building, located at 230 N. Lincoln Ave. 

In the first-come, first-served clinic, you must be present and, in a vehicle, entering the alley off of Vine Street to receive a ticket with a return time to receive the vaccine.

Police will be present, please do not start lining up on Vine St. until 8:30 am. The alley will be blocked Thursday morning.

Traffic will enter the east-west alley next to the building from Vine St. The N. Lincoln Ave. alley will be blocked off as well as the 3rd St. entrances to the parking lot. There are limited handicapped parking and limited handicap accessibility at the facility. There is also a limited number of people permitted in the building at one time due to social distancing guidelines.

According to the news release, the first 25 individuals over the age of 60 or who qualify for Phase 1A, 1B or 1C will be given the vaccine at 10 a.m. and will be directed to park in the parking lot.

Additional individuals arriving will be given a number and the time to return for their vaccine, with 25 done at a time. Individuals with a number who return at their specified time may park or walk to the health district entrance.

Immunizations were received for the specific groups, including people eligible in the state of Ohio 60 years-old and above, and State identification will be required. Occupational identification will be required for Phase 1C, including Type 1 diabetes, Pregnant Women, Bone marrow transplant recipients and those with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). 1C occupations also eligible for the vaccine include childcare services, administrators, lead and assistant teachers, and substitutes who are enrolled in Ohio’s Professional Registry who are currently working in open childcare and pre-kindergarten program; Licensing specialists employed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services or county job and family services agencies.

This phase does not include parent volunteers, board members, or owners/administrators that do not provide in-classroom supports.

1B also includes Embalmers/morticians, funeral home directors, crematory operators, and apprentices; and law enforcement and corrections officers and firefighters.

Governor DeWine has since lowered the age to 50 and older plus those diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 and End-Stage Renal Disease. If you fit into this category, please call the health department to set up an appointment. We will not have vaccines available for this group until the following week.
