A more than 100-year-old fire truck has been restored and returned to the McDonald Fire Department.

The truck is a 1917 Ford Model T and was donated by Carnegie Steel back in 1920. It was the first ever fire truck for McDonald.

Over the past year, Larry Marano has put close to 1,300 hours into restoring the fire truck which he says was in pretty rough shape. It had been sitting in a garage for the Water Department and former Fire Chief Todd Stitt asked him if he would fix it up.

Marano said he’s done every piece from the wheels to the seats to all the brass. He says it was a project he was more than happy to complete.

“It’s taken something that doesn’t look good and making it something that everybody appreciates and everybody appreciates a fire truck and all the firefighters for what they do for us and I appreciate them and this is a tribute to them,” Marano said.

Marano said Snyder’s Antique Parts, Kevin Prus and Pro Image Sign Company also helped out.

The truck will now stay at the McDonald Fire Department and will be used for special events throughout the Valley.
