Donations keep coming to help Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman expand its emergency department.
The latest is a $250,000 donation from the Cafaro Foundation.
The donation will fund the Major Resuscitation Room that will be part of the $30 million expansion.
“What is wonderful about Akron Children’s is the fact that it never turns away a child for any reason” said Phyllis Cafaro, a Trustee of the Cafaro Foundation. She added, “My love and attention for my own grandchildren makes it easy to understand that everyone feels the same about the children in their families. Everyone deserves the kind of care this hospital provides.”
Since opening in 2008, there have been nearly 350,000 ER visits at Akron Children's Beeghly Campus.
The department was originally designed for a capacity of 80 patients per day but the staff is now seeing as many as 200.
The Cafaro Foundation's donation adds to the nearly $1 million donation from Handel's Ice Cream CEO Lenny Fisher.
