YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Congressman, Tim Ryan (OH-13) has announced a $250,000 grant for Mercy Health - Saint Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

The grant will be used to upgrade existing outdated MRI at Saint Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to enable the hospital to provide higher quality care to residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. The funds will also create three new jobs.

Ryan praised Saint Elizabeth Youngstown's staff and frontline health care workers thanking them for their service. Ryan says he is proud to have this funding come in to ensure quality care.

"Saint Elizabeth Hospital and our frontline health care workers are second to none and serve the people of the Mahoning Valley with grit and determination every day. I am proud that this badly needed funding will be coming to our community to ensure that we have the highest quality care," Ryan said.

This project will lead to improved health outcomes for the region's workforce, reduce employment barriers and increase workforce participation by providing patients with more accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions and will bolster local health care infrastructure by creating three new jobs and attracting health care professionals to this Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) designated Medically Underserved Area.

In addition to the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) funds, local sources will be providing $439,990 which will bring the total funding to $689,990 for the project.
