The lobby of the Trumbull County Jail will be closed to the public for around one week after a number of employees contracted COVID-19.

According to Jail Administrator Major Dan Mason, 8 or 9 staff members have tested positive for the virus.

He also tells 21 News that the affected employees are experiencing flu-like symptoms, and none have been hospitalized.

Within the jail, Major Mason says all CDC protocols have been followed, and no inmate cases have been reported.

The prison lobby will be closed from around one week, until staff members are well enough to return to work.

Prison visitations will not be available during the closure.

Trumbull County Sheriff Paul Monroe tells 21 News that for the time being, all appointments for concealed carry permits will be rescheduled.

Monroe says that the temporary closure is necessary to protect both inmates and employees.
