SALEM, Ohio - The Brightside Project and its volunteers work year around to provide food so adults and kids won't go to bed hungry, they help increase reading or literacy so all kids can have a better future.

And with the Valley's help and generosity, they help make sure kids and teens in Columbiana won't be without a gift for Christmas. The non-profit expects to help more than last years 300 kids and teens.

"Just the need. I think parents are just struggling and they're having a hard time. I had a lady who called today who was worried about Christmas. I think parents just worry about providing for their kids," said Brightside Executive Director, Scott Lewis.

On December 18 when Brightside Project opens its doors it will have been decorated or turned into a Christmas toy land, but the non-profit needs the community's help to fill bins and make Christmas brighter for kids and teens in Columbiana County.

Kids and teens from age three to 18 will be able to pick out one larger gift, one smaller gift or toy, plus other items.

"They'll get to walk through with a volunteer, go through the toy room, they will get a bag of non perishable food, they will get a bag of stocking stuffer's. Mrs. Clause will be here. We have a gentleman here who will do balloons for the kids for Christmas."

"Everything we do is about empowering them and giving them that age appropriate choice. As a child that builds self esteem, it builds their self worth, and builds their self confidence, so that's why we structure it that way," added Lisa Wallace, Co-Director of Brightside Project.
