Following an electrifying season full of highlights, Hubbard running back T.C. Caffey has taken home the prestigious Trumbull County Player of the Year honor.

Caffey rushed for 2,638 yards and 37 touchdowns this season, helping the Eagles to a 10-2 record that included a playoff appearance. He finished 12th in the nation in rushing yards, averaging 219 per game.

Defensively, Caffey recorded 15 tackles and was honorable mention All-State in 2020. He becomes the third Hubbard player to win the award behind LJ Scott and Anthony Smith.

"It means a lot to me," Caffey said after receiving the Player of the Year Trophy. "It means all the hard work me and my teammates have put it, is finally getting recognition, even though the season's over."

Caffey said LJ Scott and Anthony Smith paved the way for him to win this award, representing the Hubbard Eagles.

"Trying to catch those guys was always a goal even since freshman year," Caffey said. "Just working toward that goal of catching LJ's record and all stuff. It means a lot to me personally because all the work that I put in myself, and just all the late nights I put in by myself."

T.C. knows it's an individual award, but says he wouldn't have received it if it wasn't for his fellow Eagles.

"Everything that I said about me and my teammates is true," Caffey added. "We all put in the work together, we all grinded together everyday. We knew it was going to happen sooner or later. It's something I'll never forget."

Caffey has yet to commit to a college to continue his athletic career, but will keep working hard.

"No commitment yet, still searching through our options, I'm leaning towards walking on Ohio State as a preferred walk on."

Brian Hoffman, head coach of the Hubbard football team, says Caffey has persevered through the season and is happy he is being recognized.

"It's a great honor for T.C. and our program tonight," Hoffman said. "I think the hard work that he put in with our team this past season is just a special accomplishment. I couldn't be more proud of a coach because all of the effort that he's really put into this, and it's not just one-year thing, he's really worked hard the past four years and proved as a football player every single year.... and it [was] highlighted in the senior season for us."
