A Wellsville man is being held in the Columbiana County Jail on $100,000 bond following his arrest on a secret indictment for alleged sex crimes committed against four children, one as young as six years old.

Timothy James Coles, 35, was arrested Monday on an eight-count indictment handed up last month charging him with attempted rape, two counts of rape, one county of attempted sexual battery, and four counts of gross sexual imposition.

According to the indictment, the alleged crimes occurred over a period beginning in 2012 through 2019.

Three of the alleged victims were ten years old when incidents began.  The fourth alleged victim was only six.

Assistant prosecutor Steven Yacavone tells 21 News that Coles was involved in the community, including as a coach.

An earlier version of this story stated that Coles was a youth football and basketball coach. Yacavone does not know in what capacity Coles served as a coach.

Yacavone said that to the best of his knowledge, Coles did not coach any of the alleged victims.

A March 3 arraignment hearing is scheduled for Coles in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
