Glenwood Fresh Market to celebrate opening

There’ll be a new place to get healthy food in Youngstown.

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation has announced the opening of the Glenwood Fresh Market on Tuesday, April 12, at 9 a.m.

Located at 2915 Glenwood Avenue near Idora Avenue, the new facility will be open year-round for members to access free, high-quality, fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods.

Residents who are low-income and predisposed to illnesses linked to diet including obesity, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and other related conditions are eligible to become members.

As of March 31, 2022, 940 individuals have become members and the YDC anticipates enrolling 2,000 members in the coming months.

The market, located in the newly-renovated Glenwood Plaza, will be open year-round on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 5 pm

The Glenwood Fresh Market is funded by the USDA, Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley, and the Healthpath Foundation of Ohio.

The renovation of the Glenwood Plaza is funded by The Raymond John Wean Foundation, City of Youngstown, Finance Fund, The Youngstown Foundation, Pollock Company and Personal Foundations, W. and H. Bender Memorial Fund, J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation, Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, Senator Maurice Lipscher Charitable Trust, Walter and Caroline Watson Foundation, Huntington National Bank, Frank and Pearl Gelbman Foundation, Ward Beecher Foundation, Fusillo Catering, and John Hynes and John Finnegan Foundation.
