A Youngstown man has been sentenced in connection to a crash that claimed the life of former Youngstown State University football player Darius Shackleford.

Adrienne Washington, 20, was given a sentence of eight to ten-and-a-half years in prison for his role in Shackleford's death.

Police say Washington was driving a car being chased on Youngstown's east side for running a red light.

During the chase, Washington ran another red light at Albert Street and McGuffey Road, hitting Shackleford's car in the intersection.

Shackleford died as a result of the collision.

After the crash, Washington fled on foot but was later arrested. A 17-year-old was a passenger in Washington's car but did not flee the scene.
