Jury selection had been slated to begin Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court in the murder trial of an 82-year-old Newton Falls man accused of murdering a Warren woman.
Instead, Richard Stevenson pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Stevenson was indicted in December for murder and felonious assault for the Thanksgiving 2020 death of 31-year-old Salena Jones, who was shot in the chest on Front Street SW.
The involuntary manslaughter plea includes a firearm specification which could result in more prison time when Stevenson is sentenced at a later date.
Stevenson was the victim of an assault a few days later two doors down from the shooting.
Stevenson's face was severely slashed by 51-year-old Aaron Jones, who has since been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to robbery, burglary, and felonious assault.
