More than 2 million '4moms' baby swings recalled following infant death

More than 2 million baby swings from the brand '4moms' are part of a recall due to a risk of entanglement and strangulation.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall in conjunction with the brand. About 2 million 'MamaRoo' swings and 220,000 'RockaRoo' rockers are included in the recall.

The commission says that "when the swing or rocker is not in use, their restraint straps can hang below the seat," allowing crawling infants to get tangled in the straps.

The recall comes after that horrific scenario actually happened. A 10-month-old infant died from asphyxiation after crawling underneath the swing and getting caught in the hanging restraint strap. A second baby suffered bruising to his neck before he was rescued by a caregiver. Both incidents were with the 'MamaRoo' infant swing. There have been no reported incidents with the 'RockaRoo.'

The recall recommends consumers with crawling infants should immediately stop using the swings and rockers. Place them somewhere where babies cannot access them, and contact 4moms for a strap fastener that will secure the hanging straps when the product is not in use.

4moms can be reached by phone at 877-870-7390 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or by email at safetyandrecall@4moms.com. They are also available online by clicking here.

The swings were sold at BuyBuy Baby and Target stores around the country, as well as online at 4moms.com and Amazon from January 2010 to August 2022.
