Route 5 open again in Newton Township after head-on crash

 A head-on crash involving a car and a semi-tractor trailer closed a portion of State Route 5 for more than two hours near the Trumbull Portage County line early Tuesday.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. between the county line and Newton Falls Road.

A medical helicopter was put on standby but was canceled after first responders discovered that both drivers were out of their vehicles.

The stretch of Route 5 is closed while Hazmat cleans up spilled fuel.

The road was open again shortly after 6 a.m.
