A Sebring man has been arrested after leading police on a dangerous chase through Smith Township Thursday night.

Police say shortly before 9:30 p.m.; they observed a black Chevy Cruze run a stop sign on SR-165 at the Beloit Snodes Road intersection.

Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but police say the vehicle began to accelerate and continued traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, continuing to run stop signs. At this point, police say the vehicle's driver shut off the headlights.

According to a police report, the vehicle was traveling left of center and was swerving across the roadway.

At one point, police noted that multiple vehicles in the oncoming traffic lane were forced to swerve and stop on the roadway to avoid being hit by the suspect's vehicle.

Eventually, the suspect swerved to the right and stopped for police.

Police removed the suspect from the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs. The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Haden Sprowl of Sebring.

Police say Sprowl told officers he ran because he "freaked out" and wasn't sure why he was being stopped.

Sprowl is currently in the Mahoning County Jail facing charges including Failure to Comply with Signal or Order of a Police Officer and Reckless Operation. The police report includes other charges, including Stop Sign Violation and Headlights Required.
