The Vienna Township Trustees will be holding special meetings at 6 p.m. Monday and again on January 23, to discuss the need to place a 1 mill renewal levy for the May Primary election.
Vienna Township Fiscal Officer Linda McCollough said the renewal levy is needed for the community, as it covers the day-to-day operation of the Vienna Township Fire Department and also partially funds the salaries for the township's four full-time firefighters, which also are all emergency trained for the township's ambulance service. Part of Fire Chief Richard Brannon's salary also comes from the levy revenues.
The renewal levy has been voted in by the township people since 2003 McCullough said and generates about $80,000 for the fire and emergency services for the township. Last year, Vienna Fire Department responded to 1,024 calls.
The special meetings will take place at 848 Youngstown Kingsville Road NE in Vienna.
