Canfield man in court for traffic death of 81-year-old woman

A Canfield man has been secretly indicted for a crash that killed an 81-year-old woman in Columbiana County back in 2022, with the driver allegedly admitting to police that he was distracted by his phone.
Twenty-eight-year-old Lowell Horst was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. He pled not guilty to both charges in a Columbiana County courtroom on Thursday.
The charges stem from a crash in September of 2022 when Holst's pickup truck went left of center on SR-172 slamming into a red SUV killing 81-year-old Mary Coss, who was a passenger in the SUV.
Troopers say Holst admitted to them that he was distracted by his cell phone, watching sports highlights on YouTube, and did not see the SUV leading up to the deadly crash.
Holst is currently free on a $75,000 bond while the legal process plays out. His next hearing is in July.
