YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - More than $50,000 in state money is being given to the Youngstown City Health District.

State Representative Lauren McNally announced the $52,500 grant from the Ohio Commission on Minority Health for the district.

The Youngstown Local Office on Minority Health will put the money toward reducing infant mortality, educating the community on the importance of healthy lifestyles and addressing the social determinants of health.

“Reducing infant mortality and supporting our moms and babies is made easier with greater financial investment from the state. The people on the ground, who know our community well and are closest to the problems, are best positioned to do the work that needs to be done,” said Rep. McNally. “We must continue supporting those local efforts.”

The grant program is part of the Ohio Local Offices on Minority Health which is dedicated to eliminating health disparities in minority communities through information and education.

There are six Local Offices of Minority Health throughout Ohio including the one in Youngstown.
