Authorities have arrested a Southington man more than a year and a half after a serious hit-and-run traffic accident in Trumbull County.

Pete Urick has been jailed after a grand jury handed up a secret indictment charging the 55-year-old with two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident and one count of tampering with evidence.

State Troopers believe Urick was driving a pickup truck that struck battery-powered scooters along Corey Hunt Road in Bristol Township in 2021 on New Year’s Eve.

The patrol says the truck didn’t stop after the crash.

A 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman on the scooters were injured and taken to hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol made a public plea for information just days after the accident.  However, charges weren't filed until the grand jury indictment was issued.

If Urick pays his $10,000 bond, he will have to register for electronically monitored house arrest. The next pre-trial is set for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 8.
