Youngstown City Council has approved spending $1,100,000 to replace a faulty fire escape at City Hall..
Council on Monday agreed to waive the formal bidding process and pay as much as $1,100,000 to Murphy Contracting and MS Consultants for emergency repairs to the fire escape as quickly as possible.
City officials began limiting the number of people allowed into City Hall in early March when a maintenance review discovered structural problems with the fire escape.
As a result, the City Council has been moving its meetings elsewhere until repairs are completed.

Officials say design details are underway and it will take about 6 months for the demolition and installation process to be completed.
The ordinance states that the money for the project is available in the city's General Fund.
