Safety measures, police presence increase at Canfield Fair

The Canfield Fair officially begins Wednesday and will bring in thousands across the valley and beyond.

Before the gates open though, the fair board made sure to put more safety measures in place, hoping they won't see a repeat of last year's brawl.

You may recall the altercation between 75-100 people that led to a gun going off, arrests being made and charges filed.

Fair officials tell 21 News they'll have an increased police presence on the grounds.

"All of our policies and procedures have been updated. All of the law enforcement agencies are cooperating fully, we have discussions almost weekly about this and again it's a spontaneous issue," said Director of concessions and entertainment, George Roman. "You never know where, when, how, why it erupts but it does. But, we're prepared for it. We've got a few things up our sleeves that we're counting on and we're not at liberty to discuss those right now," he said.

In addition, the officers will be strategically placed in certain areas around the fair and law enforcement will be increasing technology use to better protect fair goers.
