Ohio Department of Jobs & Family Services (ODJFS) Director, Matt Damschroder has announced on Wednesday a new electronic signature process that would save Ohioans time when applying for certain benefits via smartphone.
According to a press release, starting Wednesday, September 13, all Ohioans will be able to apply, renew or recertify for Medicaid, SNAP, cash assistance and publicly funded childcare right from their smartphone.
"The e-signature program is not mandatory, but it will be a time saver for those who participate," Damschroeder said.
The process allows customers to receive a link on their smartphone, review their rights and responsibilities and sign in real time, which is instantly transferred to Ohio Benefits.
This will act as an alternative to the existing telephonic signature process and could save up to 20 minutes for the applicant on the phone.
The program has previously been rolled out in select counties in Ohio including Columbiana County here in the Mahoning Valley as of August 31. Now as of September 13, all counties are included.
Customers can still mail drop off or fax applications to their county office to apply, renew or recertify their benefits, or they can complete the same applications through the online self-service poral.
