Mahoning County Judge and Former State Senator Joe Schiavoni has offered to mediate negotiations between the YEA teacher's union and the Youngstown City School District.
The YEA initially reached out to Schiavoni, who agreed to mediate provided both parties accept the offer. Schiavoni served two terms in the Ohio State Senate, representing the 33rd District.
"Judge Schiavoni earned the trust and respect of the Youngstown school community during his time in the Ohio Senate," says YEA Spokesperson Jim Courim. "He opposed laws which took local control away from our schools. He cares about Youngstown's children. We hope the Board agrees to accept his offer."
Schiavoni would mediate on a pro-bono basis, should both parties agree to his involvement.
The teacher's strike is currently in its third week.
