Rosh Hashanah begins Friday at Sunset
Rosh Hashanah, is one of Judaism's holiest days and will begin at Sunset on Friday, September 15th.
Rosh Hashanah, translates from Hebrew, meaning “the head of the year.”
The two-day celebration marks the start of the Jewish New Year and is filled with traditions, like eating a round challah, and dipping apples in honey symbolizing a sweet start to a New Year.
“It gives us an excuse to really focus on the ones we love and the things we need to help lift up our souls,” said Rabbi Courtney Berman.
“It's a time where we can take a step back, looking at the past year, thinking of how you can be a better person in the coming year and then setting that intention to do better in the coming year and moving forward with it,” said Barbara Wilson with the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown.
In honor of Rosh Hashanah, The Jewish Community Relations Council of Youngstown have kicked off its 31st annual Holiday food drive benefitting Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.
