Plans are being made for a building that began its life as home to the YMCA in downtown Warren 95 years ago.
Operators of Trumbull Family Fitness are expected to announce on Thursday a partnership with Valley Property Investments to develop the four-story building at Main and High Streets.
A 10 a.m. news conference is scheduled to reveal plans to develop multi-use spaces in the building. According to a news release from Trumbull Family Fitness, while a final blueprint hasn’t been completed, it is anticipated that most of the space will be designated residential.
Valley Properties has developed several projects throughout Trumbull County, Northeast Ohio, and the country.
Constructed in 1926, the building once housed the Trumbull County YMCA until its charter was revoked in 2014 for failing to comply with YMCA standards.
Trumbull Family Fitness, which took over the facilities and currently serves 700 members, says it has faced a post-pandemic reduction in membership, as well as a lack of finances to make improvements at the facility.
"There is an increased demand for market-rate living with new business coming to the region. This project is a template for how we can re-purpose existing properties and meet the demand," said David Potter, the current Executive Director of TFF.
Primary financing for the project will be derived from historical tax credits, according to the news release.
The timeline for the project to begin is 2 years, with a projected completion time of 3 to 4 years.
