Columbiana County Health Commissioner wins AOHC Award at fall conference

Columbiana County Health Commissioner, Wes Vins along with Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer for East Liverpool City Hospital, Dr. Gretchen Nickell attended the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners' (AOHC) fall conference in Dublin, Ohio last week.
During that conference the two were asked to present how they built a successful partnership over the years, which benefitting their response efforts to the East Palestine train derailment.
The two offered AOHC members the lessons they've learned on partnership and emergency response, as well as highlighted considerations local health departments when make when preparing for emergencies in their own communities.
Vins was presented with the AOHC's Public Health Guardian Award, which recognizes an individual for having initiated a new program that improved public health in Ohio and recognizes outstanding, significant and innovative activities and programs resulting in a positive impact on public health.
Vins was recognized for his dedication to the field of public health within the last 25 years, as well as his strong leadership and commitment to always do the right thing, even when it's difficult.
