Repairs underway for Newton Falls covered bridge following 2022 crash

Posted: Updated:
NEWTON FALLS, Ohio -

Repairs are currently underway for the Newton Falls covered bridge after it was damaged in a crash last year.

According to Trumbull County Engineer, Randy Smith, the bridge has been closed since February of 2022 after a crash that occurred when a vehicle lost control while crossing the bridge and damaged several truss cords.

Smith says repairs were delayed due to both the driver and the vehicle being from out of state, so it took some time to work with insurance companies to address the situation.

Now that repairs are underway, Smith tells 21 News that work should be completed within six to eight weeks and the bridge can be reopened to traffic.

Smith says the cost of repairs is over $750,000.
