AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -

Two Austintown women are jailed after a grand jury handed up indictments alleging that they cruelly abused a child as young as four.

Victoria Hawkins, 32, and Jhanette Shipp, 29, of Westminster Avenue, were booked into the Mahoning County Jail on Monday.

According to an indictment issued last week, the child was as young as four when the alleged abuse took place between November 2019 and November 2022. The indictment says the child was seriously harmed.

The women are each charged with two felony counts of child endangering, and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence.

Mahoning County Assistant Prosecutor, Kaitlin Andrews did not go into great detail about the alleged abuse but tells 21 news that the level of abuse was "far beyond that seen in typical abuse cases."

Andrews went on to tell us the child is in someone else's care and Hawkins and Shipp are both scheduled to be arraigned on October 31.

21 News is working to learn more about the circumstances that led to the indictments.
