Intel Corporation, which is building a new $20 billion semiconductor manufacturing site in Columbus and will create 3,000 permanent positions in engineering and manufacturing, has announced news funding grants for Youngstown State University to help provide a skilled talent pool for their facility.
Four YSU students were chosen out of 44 applicants, and each student received $1,000 in scholarship funds. YSU is a member of the Ohio TechNet Northeast Ohio Semiconductor Workforce Consortium and received funds for scholarships from Intel Corporation.
Vamsi Borra, an assistant professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at YSU has been leading efforts to bring more programming to the university as the Principal Investigator of this grant, according to the news release.
