The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is in crisis mode. In a Facebook post, the organization said they are in need of community support and donations so they can continue their mission, supporting abused and neglected animals.
With a shortfall of donations reaching a critical low, AWL has made cuts across the board and are only able to step in, in the most dire cases. The impact hits particularly hard because, as the only humane agency in the county, they have the power to investigate, file charges and remove animals from unsafe conditions.
Bob Hotchkiss, board president of AWL, said the league has almost tripled their number of animal rescues. According to the Facebook post, there has been a 77.6% increase in animals coming into their care. They say their resources and space are dwindling.
Despite making staffing cuts, limiting animal intake and ending their educational programs they still cannot make ends meet.
"Money is the first thing that we need, but kind donations would also be accepted, we use tons of kitty litter every year" Hotchkiss told 21 News.
