They say it takes a village and, for the close to 2 decades WFMJ has been partnering with the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, that phrase has always held true.
"It's well known that like one in five adults go hungry and one in four children go hungry so it's shocking. We get a lot of people that come in as customers and people just dropping off food it's very surprising and very helpful," says Greg Rhoton, Community Marketing Director with Armstrong Cable.
Armstrong Cable has always been heavily involved in the community, but when the idea of who to help next came up, Second Harvest was an easy choice.
"Second Harvest has a lot of other places in their network and that's like a one-stop shop to disperse all the food that we collect and all the monetary donations. It was kind of a no-brainer to do,: adds Rhoton.
Since 2010, Armstrong Cable has been helping fight hunger year-round with its Breaking Bread and Avenge Hunger campaigns.
In total, Armstrong has collected over twenty-five thousand pounds and over thirty-eight thousand dollars, for a total of over two-hundred and twelve thousand meals provided.
