The city of Warren is looking at ways to curb the rise of violence in the area, and according to local church and community leaders, building a relationship with parents and children is the first place to start.

As Second Baptist Church celebrates their 100 and 7th anniversary, they are working to expand their outreach to the community.

At Second Baptist Church the choir, church members, and pastor are celebrating 107 years of praising the Lord and serving the community by showing the love of Jesus Christ through actions.

Second Baptist Church Pastor Todd Johnson tells us the church continues to grow serving spiritual needs and needs of folks in the community.

"It's so important to have the ministry of our church in the community to be a help to the families, to be a refuge, for individuals in the community, to be a place to bring your youth up, and gather people young and old together. We feed families, we clothe families, we partner with local organizations and do all kind of non-profit work. We really fill in the gaps as the church," said Pastor Todd Johnson.

He believes having a strong center of faith in God and morals and values to guide lives is essential to reducing violence, drug abuse, and dysfunction in our communities.

After the service to celebrate,  outside on a ribbon cutting was held for the Major Timothy Ramey pavilion.

The church member who passed away last year had a heart to build a community pavilion for gatherings, and to open the church to the neighborhood.

Church members feel blessed to have friendship, fellowship, and support by the church and it's members and believe the church will be going strong 107 years from now.

"From Reverend Mosley to Pastor Todd, they have always progressed. They have always tried to do for the members. They've always tried to do for our community and it's just a blessing to be in a church that looks after each other from the littlest to our oldest," Carol Cambridge emphasized.
